Whether you’ve just started out in the world of content creation or have been in the game for a while and are looking to boost your rates of engagement, then it’s worth looking to some of the most popular YouTubers around for inspiration. Whether it’s creating more polished videos, as per MrBeast, or channeling Mr Indian Hacker to let your passion shine through, we’ve got the tips to take note of below.

1. PewDiePie

The king of quirky, high-quality content, PewDiePie can teach aspiring influencers a lot. He’s currently one of YouTube’s biggest creators, with a subscriber count of over 111 million. Take a leaf from PewDiePie’s book and make sure that your personality comes through clearly in all your videos, and ensure they’re relatable to your audience.  His fun, engaging personality may be the thing that initially draws viewers in, but it’s his well-edited, funny videos that keep them coming back.

2. MrBeast

Another behemoth of the YouTube world, MrBeast initially specialized in videos that focused on wild challenges and crazy stunts but has now branched out into a vast array of subjects, including gaming. Content creators take note: like PewDiePie, MrBeast’s videos are always polished, cohesive, and engaging throughout. This is partly down to the equipment YouTubers use: you may want to think about whether it’s time to upgrade your own microphone, camera, or editing software. Plus, he gives back and publicizes his philanthropic initiatives on his YouTube channel, such as the recent #TeamTrees campaign that, in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, was successful in its aim of planting twenty million trees.

3. Rhett and Link

This YouTube comedy duo is best known for creating and hosting Good Mythical Morning – their channel boasts over eighteen million subscribers and has racked up more than eight billion views to date. Suppose you’re looking for ways to improve your content creation credentials. In that case, Rhett and Link’s show is great for inspiration: regular guests keep the content fresh, and episodes uploaded on regular days and times have helped build a rock-solid audience base.

4. Technoblade

Creating a sense of community around your channel is key to becoming a successful YouTube content creator, and Technoblade did just this. Best known for his videos playing Minecraft, he gained immortality playing in the regular Minecraft Monday invite-only events run by the controversial YouTuber Keemstar. He was virtually unbeatable and wielded formidable knowledge of the game and all its facets. The lesson? Know your subject inside out.

5. Dude Perfect

This collective of five best buds fuses their favorite things – sport and comedy –  on their hugely popular YouTube channel that’s racked up nearly sixty million subscribers. The team’s specialty is unbelievable trick shots and comedy videos, and viewers are treated to regular cameos from celebs like Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn, actor Liam Hemsworth, and tennis legend Serena Williams. Content creators take note: Dude Perfect ensures they appeal to a wide audience by making sure that the fun is kept family-friendly.

6. SssniperWolf

SssniperWolf has become a hugely popular YouTube presence: she’s best known for her gameplay footage, vlog, and DIY and reaction videos. Her enthusiasm for her content, sense of humor, and ability to connect with her followers have helped SssniperWolf’s channel reach the dizzy peaks of over thirty million subscribers – and growing. Take a leaf out of this YouTuber’s book and be active on several social media platforms to enable your influence and reach to extend even further.

7. Mr Indian Hacker

And now, a lesson in how important it is to create content that you’re passionate about: your love of the subject will shine through to inspire and engage with viewers. Mr. Indian Hacker (aka Dilraj Singh Rawat) has gained a huge YouTube following with his experimental videos, such as ‘How to Make a Rocket at Home’ and ‘How to Run a Temperature Test on an iPhone 14 Pro.’ The science-based nature of his videos has led to Mr. Indian Hacker’s followers being dubbed the Titanium Army.

8. Felipe Neto

A Brazilian-based YouTuber with a subscriber base of over forty-four million, Neto’s channel features celeb news, comedy videos, and day-in-the-life style vlogs. In terms of the latter, content creators looking to improve their game should listen up: posting regular behind-the-scenes, making-of, or other types of candid content is a great way to give viewers a peek into your life. Consider making a video of what goes on during the creation of a piece of content or the design process for a new product to pique viewer interest and get them onside.

Here we continue to showcase talented artists from all around the world with this week’s featured artist, Marc Kushner. Marc is a globally recognized architect and tech entrepreneur. Although not directly invested in website or mobile app design, Marc is a distinguished designer in the digital media industry. He celebrates the intersection where digital media meets architecture, what that offers structures and spaces, and is “continually striving to find new ways to help the world not just like but fall in love with architecture.” (PSFK)

In collaboration with Matthias Hollwich, Marc founded the architectural firm Hollwich Kushner (HWKN), located in Lower Manhattan. He is also the co-founder of Architizer – an online platform where architects can upload their projects, offering access to a world of experimentation. Marc has also delivered talks at TED, PSFK, and GRID, and his book The Future of Architecture in 100 Buildings, was published by Simon & Schuster in 2015.

1

Creating More than just Buildings

For Marc, the rise of green buildings is nothing new, it is merely our desire for those types of buildings that is new. “Architects already know how to make buildings that are greener and smarter and friendlier,” said Marc, “we’ve just been waiting for all of you to want them.” Now that there is clearly a demand for this type of architectural design, as demonstrated by many articles on Urban Hub, architecture is moving towards designing cities with sustainability, mobility, and smart technology in mind. This means designing cities for the people who actually inhabit them, and designing in a way that a modern city should function.

Therefore, his work is far removed from the “math” traditionally associated with architecture; it is about creation an emotional connection with a building – “The core of architecture is emotional” (PSFK). Of course, buildings must conform to things like zoning regulations, permitting, and structural load calculations, all of which do require mathematics to decipher, but, as Marc points out, “none of them are about those things; they are all about a manipulation of local circumstances to create something that people can connect to. That’s what makes good architecture” (PSFK); it’s about forging an emotional connection to the places that we occupy.

The best example of this is Wendy, created for MoMA PS1, designed through a digital interface. This courtyard structure was created for the Young Architects Program from specified parameters of shade, budget, and a small carbon footprint which needed to be adhered to. Of course, Marc’s firm also wanted it to make an emotional impact on, and social connection to, the public. Designed out of nylon fabric that was treated with a titania nanoparticle spray, Wendy neutralizes air pollutants. Furthermore, groups flock around Wendy for the much needed shade, bursts of cool air, as well as mist and water cannon activity, creating both a social atmosphere between people and an interactive relationship with the structure itself.

A Link Between Digital Media and Architecture?

The technology that can be implemented in new architectural designs is a fascinating landscape to maneuver, and is one reason that Marc claims “we are living on the verge of the greatest revolution in architecture since the invention of concrete, of steel, or of the elevator, and it’s a media revolution” (TED). Marc mentioned that in the past, architects had to design based on a balance between innovative ideas and established symbols from past architecture. However, in the digital media revolution “we can make nearly instantaneous, emotionally charged symbols out of something that’s brand new” (TED). Not only are buildings being designed in a way that responds to life, but people are actually responding to these buildings; they are creating a relationship to and a dialogue around them, which is why Marc claims that “digital media hasn’t just changed the relationship between all of us; it’s changed the relationship between us and buildings” (TED).

2

An example of this is the Pines Pavilion project for Fire Island, NY. Ironically enough, the original building in the town center burned down, and Marc’s firm was hired to replace it with a new design. They proposed a design that was unlike anything the community had ever seen before and decided to place “photorealistic renderings” up on social media for the community to share and comment on. Because of this media interaction around the building within the two years until its completion, “it was already a part of the community” (TED). People then began to photograph and share pictures of the completed building, and generated personal stories, a shared experience, a symbol, and a collective memory around this building.

Architects are therefore no longer removed artists designing for a lay public; they are innovative digital media masters in conversation with the consuming public, working together “to design better buildings, better cities, and a better world.”

We continue to showcase talented artists from all around the world, and this week’s featured artist is Sandra Rauch. Berlin born and based, Sandra describes herself as a Tec Artist, drawing heavily on innovations in technology to push the boundaries of art.

Résumé

Having studied Communication Design at the Kunsthochschule Berlin, Sandra went on to focus on art painting and graphics. Upon completion of her diploma, she spent seven years working alongside Professor Rolf Kerbach as his assistant at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste (College of Fine Arts) in Dresden. Since 2008, however, she has been living back in Berlin and has been working as a freelance artist – her studio is located in the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin; consult her personal website for full address and contact details. Furthermore, in October last year, she also published a book titled Love Magic Superman, which provides more in-depth insight into her work and techniques. Both the book and several high-quality, signed prints of her work can be found at Lumas.com.

Techniques & Works

Sandra Rauch’s city roots are very much tangible through her art, with much of her work inspired by urban landscapes. Her approach is notably fearless, using an eclectic mixture of both traditional and digital techniques to capture the vibrancy and energy of the world’s metropolises. Typically, Sandra takes photos of well-known city locations which she then goes on to edit and transform through methods such as painting, digital manipulation and typography.

sra-berlin-bang-bang-2013

It is not only the streets of Berlin that have influenced her work – Sandra has also spent considerable time working in Hong Kong, New York and, most recently, Tokyo. Despite the very different characters of each location, common to every print is that distinctive city buzz; acrylics from her Berlin collection take inspiration from the city’s plentiful graffiti, its diverse fashion scene and its inhabitants, whilst her Hong Kong and New York series feature titles such as Hong Kong Fever, New York Bang and Times Square Feeling. Indeed, Rauch has an undeniable talent for taking something familiar – famous landmarks such as the Berlin TV Tower, or New York’s Fifth Avenue – and portraying it from an entirely new perspective. No matter what city, Sandra’s work is discernible through its bold use of color – reminiscent of both pop art and graffiti – and its fusion of traditional art with multimedia techniques.
